Welcome to Nicola Thomas Design, a reflection of my passion for woodworking, artistry, and the natural beauty of Piha Beach. As a self-taught woodworker with a background in the print and signage industry, I began my journey with a simple yet powerful moment of inspiration. While helping with a firewood delivery for our family firewood business, I came across a beautiful piece of wood and thought, "This would make a stunning cutting board." That spark led to the creation of Nicola Thomas Design.

Inspired by Nature

Piha, with its rugged coastline, black sand beaches, and untamed seas, is the heart and soul of my work. I draw endless inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding me—the roaring waves, the towering cliffs, the tranquil waterfalls, and the lush greenery of the Waitākere Ranges. Each of these elements finds its way into the designs I create, whether it’s the swirling resin patterns mimicking the ocean or the natural wood grains that echo the beauty of the forest.
